Kahoa Lei Update

Thank you again for your feedback on our last post about the Kahoa Lei. We wanted to share the updated version that our Pod worked on for the school assembly. While our students also created their own individual pieces, this one was a collaborative project that truly showcased their teamwork. The students were involved every step of the way: they prepared the base with a braid, measured and cut the ribbons, and hot-glued everything in place. They showed wonderful initiative by taking apart a flower lei to create the beautiful final touches at the top.

Te Pou Tuarongo

Our kura celebrated the first birthday of our new building Te Pou Tuarongo, a beautiful occasion where teachers and students shared how this new space and our innovative learning methods have positively transformed our school learning environment.

Toku Whanau

Today, the year 5 students worked with Mrs Raj to do the Toku Whanau task. They learned to write about their whanau in Te Reo Maori and in English. The learners enjoyed doing this task and uploaded their work to their individual blogs. I am proud of the learners in Room 22.

Fiji

To celebrate Fiji Language Week, the learners learnt all about Fiji, then created a short presentation on Google Slides.

The learners learnt how to share their work by publishing it to the web, clicking on embed, making it a small presentation, timing the slide show and then publishing it. They then copied the embed code.

The learners then learnt how to embed the slide show on their blogs by going to add media, insert embed code and finally inserting it into the post.

I am very proud of my students.

 

Dress up as Book Characters

Homai School celebrated Book Week and at the end of the week, we had a dress up day. Every student and every teacher dressed up as Book Characters. It was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed watching how creative people got dressing up as Book Characters.

There were many Harry Potters, many fairy tale characters and even super heroes walking about in the school grounds. The best dressed students got prizes. You guessed it right! The prizes were books for students to get hooked into reading.

Thank you students in room 4 for making an effort to dress up as your favourite book character.

Get Caught Reading

During library week, we caught many students doing sustained, silent reading in an awesome way. They were enjoying reading books of their choice.

We also noticed that some able students helped the other students in the Te Aho o te Pou pod read aloud and enjoy the stories they read together.

This trend has enabled students to read their Duffy books at home or at school and share what they read. Manaakitanga is exhibited when students help each other to learn. We are so proud of our learners!

Cross Country

Students in Room 4 participated whole heartedly in the Cross Country Race we had at Homai School. The track was long, uneven in some places and hard at times. Even though it was tiring, the students enjoyed the fun atmosphere on the day. The practices they had before hand of doing long distance running, helped get through to the end of the race. I am so proud of my students who did better than their best.

Today Room 4 explored how to code using dance sequences!
